RELIABLE REPAIRS WITH MODERN EQUIPMENT

"For us, every MC (Moving Coil) is a valuable asset entrusted by our customers, requiring the utmost care and meticulous repair."

After prolonged use, magnetic gaps and coils often accumulate magnetic dust, mold, and other debris, which can damage the coils and weaken the cantilever base. This issue arises from various factors, primarily environmental conditions, such as hot and humid climates, and the improper use of stylus cleaning solutions.

Comprehensive Cleaning and Recalibration of MC Cartridges

Why Should We Inspect, Clean, and Recalibrate MC Cartridges?

Magnetic dust is a primary cause of coil issues. It can obstruct the coil's movement within the magnetic gap, preventing it from operating within its normal range. Over time, metallic particles can damage the coil by wearing down its insulation, leading to short circuits, oxidation, or even coil breakage. Even if the coil isn’t entirely stuck, magnetic dust can affect channel separation and cause crosstalk issues, as the dust particles shift and redistribute with the coil's vibrations.

To ensure your MC cartridge functions properly and has a long lifespan, regular inspections and maintenance are essential. The frequency of maintenance depends on individual factors such as usage, environment, and the condition of your LP records. Maintenance schedules can range from every 6 months to 1-2 years or longer.

Long-term oxidation of the magnetic frame can cause uneven wear across different areas, leading to channel imbalance and reduced MC cartridge performance. This occurs because the magnetic gap widens, altering the cartridge's technical specifications compared to the manufacturer's original settings. To prevent such issues, it's essential to use the stylus correctly. If you notice significant oxidation or irregularities in performance, inspection and recalibration are necessary to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your MC cartridge.

Additionally, in many cases, diamond tips accumulate residue on the rear side of the stylus. If not cleaned properly, this can cause tracking issues, particularly in mid-to-high frequencies or during fast-paced music. Such residues should be removed using specialized chemicals or physical tools designed specifically for stylus maintenance to ensure effective cleaning and optimal performance.

Another common issue is the diamond tip becoming rotated or misaligned at a certain angle, which requires recalibration.

This is particularly prevalent in MC cartridges with rubber suspension systems. For example, as shown in the accompanying image, a misalignment of over 7 degrees will result in improper operation and compromised performance. Proper adjustment is essential to restore accuracy.

MC Cleaning Costs: The cost of cleaning MC cartridges depends on their condition and the required tasks, such as removing dust, cleaning the coil, magnetic gap, and protective lining, recalibrating the cantilever, and measuring performance parameters. The price typically ranges from 50$ - 150$.
